Well, the fun had to end sometime. I am retiring from the Village of Algonquin, IL effective September 29, 2017 after 16 years (a couple of days away from 17). I really loved my job but at 61 I need to hang it up for a number of reasons. Maybe I will be able to find the time to be here more often...

Good for you Jake, now take some of that retirement money, buy some land, take all of your knowledge and build some spec houses.

Sounds like good and sort of not ready to move on

Anyway just enjoy what life will bring you.

And it will be good for you!!!!

Congrats! I'm not sure I'll live long enough to retire, but it sure does sound good some days!

Are you getting to train your replacement, or will your Village just throw the new guy/gal in there? Do you get to move up an existing employee or are they hiring from outside? And aren't you an officer with ICCA? Can you keep doing that or do you have to give it up?

Congratulations......Well then Jake I respect your opinion here at the forum so I hope to hear from you more often.

I don't think they are replacing me, at least not right away. I have to give up my positions at NWBOCA and ICCA. And don't worry JCraver, time sneaks up on you!

Now if I could just find that retirement money...it's got to be here somewhere...

May I ask how old you are Jake? I retired a couple of years ago at the end of my 80th year for tax reasons, I would have liked to continue working and feel kind of useless now, but taxes drive everything we do now.

61...I'm keeping busy around the house and have a couple of things in the works...also doing a lot of carpenter work on the weekends.

Gosh Jake, my son will soon be 61, no thought of ever retiring , that's one reason I really wanted to work longer so as to leave him more so he's always taken care of.

Wow! Be gone so long. Just ready back post and sorry to see TJacobs go. That's what I get for being just to busy over the last several years.
Sorry I have been away but summer and real life happens. Nice that you are back RJJ!
