Roof openings adjacent to fire wall

IBC 2012, Chapter 706.6 - My understanding is that if the firewall extents a minimum of 30" above both adjacent roofs, then there is no restriction on putting roof openings close to a firewall (e.g. less than 4 feet from the wall). If the firewall does not extent at least 30" above both roofs, then no openings can be located within 4ft. of the wall, in addition to the other provisions of whichever exception (i.e. 2,3 or 4) you are using, which are also applicable. Correct?
