unsprinklered existing school; the proposal is to take a large open class room and split into two.. the problem is they are creating a "corridor" (unrated). Two remote exits will remain.

Occupant load on the floor will be about 70 students. Anyone have a particular problem with the new corridor not being rated?

The "new" corridor should be rated and one should consider the length of the dead end corridor created.

Is the new corridor open at any point????

Heard one opinion that if a corridor was open to say a large room it was not a corridor. The argument made some sense since the rating was not maintained

the "corridor" opens into classrooms.. continuity to the roof deck is going to be tough to do based on the existing roof construction.

3rd floor.. 2 exits avilable for each class room.. directly to a stairway..

the new "corridor" does nothing different than the existing exiting plan provides for.. herd one classroom one way.. the other class room the other way.. just like they do with their current fire drills. Just splitting one classroom into 2.

herding cats is harder than herding sheep.. the little kids are all on the first floor with classrooms that discharge directly to the outside.

I'm not sure that these "corridors" add anything to the hazard of the existing building.

Like I said, I could argue this either way... up to the plan reviewer to decide, I think..
