Hello,
Looking for Code reference for school vestibule... is this an IBC or NFPA requirement?

Vestibule needs to provide safety from active shooter, while also having 2 way communication phone. Alarm pull box - mounted in corridor within 5 feet of vestibule? Being renovation, assume Building Official would take priority over Fire Marshal?

Is there code language to this? Seems to be increasing topic of fire safety versus active shooter. Also finding where no door handles are to be outside of doors, except main doors.

Thanks in advance! Mike

First all your questions have to comply with the code adopted by the city the building is in.

Not a vestibule person, but might only be required for energy purposes.

Some jurisdictions both officials have equal power.

Door handle might only be required under ada?? Not sure

As far as security vs safety, normally safety wins out, and most codes do not cover security, unless admended.

Energy code is the only code that requires a vestibule....school design or practices may require something for security purposes, then it would have to meet building and fire code...

If you install handles on all exterior doors, they may be considered an "entrance" and need to be accessible or signage indicating where the accessible ones are...
