A self-service trash/tray cabinet at the end of a 34" tall condiment bar is raised up to 42" above finished floor. Normally if I see these at 42" aff, they will have a small swing door (bottom lip at 34") to push the trash through and the trays are stacked on top. Now I am seeing them at 42" aff with a cut out hole and the tray stack on top of the cabinets.

Working in the 2006 IBC, Chapter 11 & ANSI A117.1-2003 (would also like to know if more recent codes have different requirements).

My first question is, are these required to be accessible, and if so, is only one required?

Thanks in advance.

General scoping requirements of ANSI and ADAAG require maximum access to accessories and controls at 48"

There is no specific requirement for Service Trash/Tray cabinets

Thanks Mark. I didn't know if it would be considered an obstructed reach range or not.
It depends on the design.

I would not concider this an obstructed reach

As always, thanks Mark. The unit specified does not feature the swing door as shown in your image, but is of the same height. The top of the unit features a metal rail for tray storage, and an oval cut-out for disposal. I have recommended that they clarify compliance with the obstructed reach requirements in the ANSI A117.1-2003, or later editions. I will see if I can find an image to post later.

I would not conceder this an obstructed reach because you do not reach tothe back or even center to deposit the tray or trash

This is a quick sketch of the proposed cabinetry to be installed.
There is a reach because the opening is in the center to deposit the trash, but apears to comply, just watch the height
