Smoke Barrier w/ 1 hour fire resistance rating separating the building into at least two smoke compartments.

710.3 Fire-resistance rating. A 1 hour fire-resistance rating is required for smoke barriers. Exception: Smoke barriers constructed of minimum 0.10 inch thick steel in Group I-3 buildings.

For duct penetrations through the smoke barrier, I assume a smoke damper AND a fire damper (or combination smoke / fire damper) is required. Is this correct?

Thanks

Thanks Ron.

It seemed odd to me to require a one hour fire rated smoke barrier but not require the duct penetration to have a fire rated damper.

Only a smoke damper will be installed.
