Here is one for you guys:



Part 9 buildings other than: buildings that contain only dwelling units, and have no dwelling units above another dwelling unit.

Do the exterior walls of these types of buildings always require a fire resistance rating?
 
I would say no. Table 9.10.14.5.-A only places requirements on walls that have less than 100% unprotected openings permitted. If you have a building that permits 100% openings, it does not have to be rated construction since it is not addressed by the table.

AAhhh that is the detail I missed, the less than 100% UPOs. In my mind it included 100% UPOs. Thanks! That is why I come here.
 
I walked into that by accident last year. Townhouse project. First phase was Part 3. Second was Part 9. I mis-applied 9.10.14, but ... townhouse. No dwelling unit above another.
