2009 IRC, P2902.3.4 Pressure-type vacuum breakers (including spillproof vacuum breakers). "Pressure-type vacuum breakers shall not be installed in locations where spillage could cause damage to the structure." Both Watts and Wilkins touts their spillproof vacuum breakers are specifically designed for indoor installation. However the code still prohibits them indoors (where structure may be damaged). Their advertising seems to be misleading; accept that IAPMO (UPC?) approves them for use indoors. If anyone has a picture or drawing showing a pan or other device that would prevent damage to the structure; I would appreciate it if you would post it. We do prefer that backflow preventers used for lawn sprinkler system be inside the house (in room with water heater); and looking for a way to accommodate that installation. Don't know if I presented this correctly; but, thanks for any help. Uncle Bob
