As the wage debates and the sprinkler debates rage on, I would like to take the time to thank my local volunteer firefighters and all volunteer firefighters nationwide.

I received a call from a neighbor who informed me that she she was in my drive and keeping an eye on the house two doors away. The fire had been called in and not to worry.

Here is what two volunteer companies and CalFire suppressed last month:

Sue, grateful on the frontier

We have a great volunteer unit also. A couple of years ago the city council decided that they would make the volunteers pay for their water bills. This was the only form of payment these guys received for SEVERAL years. That didn't go over too well with the firefighters but they took it in stride because they are a special group of people. However when it came election time......none of the council members who voted to make the voulunteers pay their water bill won their election! Funny how karma is!

A great big salute to all of those that volunteer their services for our country, police, and fire fighters! And anyone else that makes me proud!! Like my Granddaughter..5 years old and spoiled rotten!!

It's been over 30 years ago; but, I apprecitate your kind thoughts. It's the first time anyone ever thanked me for being a volunteer fire fighter (for about 4 years).

I hope I'm included.

Uncle Bob

my chief fire inspector has been a member of a VFD for more than 20 years.. rural areas wouldn't exist without them.. and I personally appreciate them too.

LARRY ROCKS!

and so do all members of the volunteers out there..

Personally I'd never run into a burning building (I'm nuts.. but not THAT nuts)... it takes a special person to be a fire fighter (paid or volunteer) to run into a burning building... and I have the utmost respect for those crazy people.. i hope they respond if I have an emergency..

still don't like RFS.. and never will... give away the passive measures in favor of an "active" one.. when the street pressure is 20 psi.. well, it ain't gonna work for 7 minutes.
