In some of my plan reviews of military projects, I use the
Unified Facilities Criteria ( UFC ) Standards; as well as,
the I-Codes.

Does anyone know if there is some type of formal training
available for the UFC Standards, ...similar to the Building
Professionals Institute [ from the University of Texas at
Arlington ], or the Colorado Chapter Educational Institute,
or even the ICC Plan Review Institutes ?

Thanks for your input !

"Much Thanks" for the input & the Links.

It is my intent to become familiar with the various UFC Standards,
so that I can review plans for military projects.

I am familiar with the ICC Codes.......The plans that I have been
reviewing and will review in the future incorporate the ICC Codes
and the UFC Standards.......On some of the projects we review,
the 2010 A.D.A.S.A.D., ...Chapter 11 [ from the IBC ] & the 2009
ANSI A117.1 are applicable......Not sure about obtaining
certifications with the UFC Standards right now, just need a
broader scope of what to apply and when.

Again, ..."Much Thanks" to all.

Hi north star,

I'm a bit late to the discussion. We have to deal with the UFCs a lot and they can be pretty confusing. Current versions can all be found here:
http://wbdg.org/ffc/dod/unified-facilities-criteria-ufc

I'm not aware of any specific training on the UFCs overall. A couple of points:

1. those labeled UFC are Unified Facilities Criteria and apply to all branches of the US military
2. those labeled FC are not unified and apply to only one branch (army, navy, etc.), you have to read the document to figure out which one.
3. they are not updated on any regular schedule, just when the authors think they need to be changed, so you have to check the website for each project to make sure you have the correct version.
4. references within the UFCs to new versions of the IBC take effect when a new UFC is published; however, new versions of NFPA 101 take effect as soon as the new NFPA 101 is published (this distinction leads to no end of confusion).
5. start with these UFCs:
- 1-200-01 DoD Building Code (General Building Requirements) [References portions of IBC]
- 1-200-02 High Performance and Sustainable Building Requirements
- 3-600-01 Fire Protection Engineering for Facilities [References NFPA 101 and portions of IBC]
- 4-010-02 DoD Minimum Antiterrorism Standards for Buildings

Then go through the discipline specific ones, then ones for specific building types or subjects.
