Just got in a draft floor plan for a 5,000 sq. ft. TI for county offices that involves 2 separate front counters, one for probation and the other is for CalWorks. New configuration has two separate sets of offices, 2 holding cells (probation), shared bathrooms, breakroom, conference room, and storage.

The building was originally a grocery store, complete with 2 coolers, a butcher, meat hooks in back, etc. I have been told that game was also processed for the hunters.

My question is, what occupancy would you classify this as? I was doing fine with a basic 'B' until the two holding cells. These will be used for juveniles on a temporary basis during business hours. No one will be left unattended or overnight. Proposed holding cells to be the old walk-in coolers or where the coolers are currently located.

IBC breaks it down by more than five persons. Over 5 is a Group I and then you have to apply Use Condition 1 through 5.

Agree with Coug Dad. Have FBI/Homeland Security in a "B" office building with 2 small holding cells.

2009

308.4 Group I-3.

This occupancy shall include buildings and structures that are inhabited by more than five persons who are under restraint or security.

Same reason it took all of my self-control to not make a smart :butt remark about giving new meaning to the phrase 'throwing 'em in the cooler' or 'putting 'em on ice'.

Thanks everyone, I knew someone had dealt with this before.

I hope the old walk-ins have some kind of ventilation.
My concern also. Or maybe they will come out and redo walls? Still waiting on specifics.

I think the appropriate place for a couple of meatballs is in the cooler. Is that a coed cooler?

I can see one line forming at the CalWorks counter and after processing they can start working as probation officers.

The coolers would have been most appropriate for the new ICE (Immigration & Customs Enforcement) office we got last year..........:lol:
