Not where I really want to be
To help drive more people to The Building Code Forum, we are now also on TikTok, and it appears to be working. Feel free to go to TikTok and search for The Building Code Forum. We went live today and are already doing very well with just a few videos. Don't bash it until you try it. We have to reach out using Social Media to draw people in these days. Not everyone uses Google to search for a question.

I am leary of TIK TOK. That whole CCP thing. My wife of seventeen years is Chinese and she is really leary of TIK TOK. Of course Siri and Google are listening to every conversation and some guy in Beijing is reading this post. A friend has a refrigerator that sends him pictures of the inside of the refrigerator to his email. I had a GMC pickup that did that.
And now fatboy is wondering how the truck got inside my refrigerator.

Nope. Not feeding the Chinese government a freaking thing.
I’m not asking anyone to use social media, but I want members to know I’m doing everything possible to keep the forum alive. As the ways people communicate and share information change, having a presence on multiple platforms helps bring new people here and keeps the forum relevant.

Well, this was unexpected. We now have over 700 followers just from this weekend. Most, if not all, are contractors, which is the part of this forum we are trying to grow. This really took off.

While we have a small uptick in people registering with the forum, so it is working, however, I am not sure it is worth the effort or aggravation. TikTok, like all social media platforms, such as Instagram, Facebook, and even YouTube, can be more trouble than it's worth. There are tons of trolls and people from various walks of life and experience who are essentially clueless as to how things actually work in the real world.

Trying to use TikTok as a platform to drive people here has been interesting, to say the least. It has made me appreciate this forum much, much more. Here we have civil conversations with professionals who may not always agree on interpretation, but at least have a level of calmness and respect. We are not perfect, but compared to social media, this site is at a whole other level in a very good way.

I have been able to get about 1,100 followers with some rather benign videos, but the comments just turn me away. So it is possible that I may let this go for a little longer, then just pull the plug and delete the account.

I have been active at X. It’s a zoo. In the last year I’ve had close to four million views and the replies are fairly nasty. It seems that people that appreciate a post say nothing and the people that don’t like it, have pent up anger. 60,000 people hit the like button and 8,000 called me names. Of course I can be a turd so the 8k might have a point.
