This is the best job I've ever had; and will miss it and the wonderful people I have been privileged to work with. I've been here a little over a year and have been part of a vast improvement in the permitting process and code compliance. It's just taking it's toll on my old body and I am leaving at the end of January, 2014. I'm leaving with mixed emotions; because I know I must and I will miss this great team very much. Everyone here from the nice ladies in the front offices to my very knowledgeable and savy Building Official, and of course our extremely supportive City Manager, have become my friends as well as my fellow workers. I will miss them greatly. I thank God for giving me this opportunity to end my career with a feeling of accomplishment among friends. I'll post the job description when it officially comes open. Just had to tell someone and my friends here should know that there are great positions and opportunities in this business. Love ya'll, Uncle Bob

Well, all good things have to come to an end, and you can hold your head high that you helped to improve the building industry in the AHJ. I like the others above do hope that you continue to contribute and share in this forum. January is a bit away, but after that, we want to hear from you. When that day comes, Happy Trails my friend!

Uncle Bob:

I retired at the end of July. I found that my body was ready but not my mind. I miss the job and the people more than anything: the contractors, my coworkers, my friends from the Mayor to the City Supervisor, and all the departments I got to work with. I still have a garden at the building, so I get see some people when I water and weed and prune. Chatting with them last Friday made me realize that the work isn't the important part, it's the people who form the team and help each other.

I wish you the very best in whatever you choose to do, but please stay close to this forum. I visit a couple times a day, and more, in between quilting and other pursuits. Your insights and experience are valuable resources for all of us who lurk and participate here.

Are you heading out to new territory? Or just goin' fishing?

UB,

You've made a difference everywhere you've been including this forum. Its nice to go out on your own knowing the time has come. Tight lines and look forward to your thoughts to come.

say it ain't so Bob o! at least stick around and visit and share your words of wisdom and sense of humor with us. I have seen some good folks leave and not return and it is a bummer. Don't be a bummer you old fart.

Enjoy your retirement Bob. I am getting a short (I hope) taste of it as I had back surgery 2 weeks ago and the FMLA for the doc sent to the count said November 13 for return to work--I pray he was being conservative. Even worse I cannot do much of anything around the house with lack of stamina and lifting restrictions as I heal
