The 2017 ICC A117.1 indicates the 67" diameter turnaround for new construction and 60" diameter for existing buildings.

Can I safely assume that an addition is new construction (per the IEBC) and must comply with the 67" requirement?

Thank you!

ICC A117.1-2017 does not say anything about new "construction" but does require the 67" in new "facilities".
But if you are in PA the court struck down the 2021 chapter 11 accessibly code and we are back to the 2018 codes which includes ICC A117.1-2009 which only requires 60" turning space for all buildings.
Pissed me off because I ordered the new Accessibility Pocketbook for 2018 IBC and ICC A117.1-2017

Thank you Rick18071,

Yes, I was inquiring about a PA project. I was just about to order the new standard.

Out of curiosity, how did you find out PA is back on the 2018 accessibility? Is there an email distribution list available to get these kind of updates?

Thanks again!

The definition of a "facility" in ANSI A117.1 includes "...any portion of a building..." Thus, an addition to an existing building would be a new facility, and the 67-inch-diameter turning space requirement would apply.

You got to be kidding about a email distribution list. Our state isn't that organized. I was lucky to find out at all. I already required the new code on some plan reviews before I herd about it. I first herd it by word of mouth from someone that herd of it from someone else. Then I googled and found the court order to check. Now it's in the UCC website. This is the PA way. (Right Jeff?)
