Under 50 occupants second exit requirement

200 is total to any exit… 75 is choice of 2 ways to go. Your blue line might work but the red line around the counter is too long by the blue numbers…

I thought brr was saying that the 200 feet had something to do with the plan, not the exit access distance table in the code. My bad.

Yes, my numbers to the front exit by the round-about path add up to 76.32 feet -- but as I wrote, my numbers are approximate because of the way I had to back into them. brr's plan labels that path as 73 feet with is less than 75 feet, but it's not the common path. There is another path available -- the line I added in blue. Which would make the common path 5.67+4.82 = 10.49 feet.

The other line, which brr labels as BOH+FOH Common Path of Travel and pegs at 86 feet (connecting door A with door C), doesn't identify a remote point along that line. I assume the 86 feet represents the entire length of that line -- which means that the exit access travel distance from somewhere along that line will be 43 feet to either exit, and the common path from anywhere on that line will be zero.

I apologize if this is hijacking a different thread, and I'm happy to start a separate thread if I should.

I'm working on a similar problem, but for a warehouse. My maximum travel distance is 150'. But that only applies to the distance to ANY exit, correct? My maximum common distance is 25', but once I reach the option point to choose an exit, the distance to the second exit might be 200'. The distance to the second exit doesn't matter, correct? As long at my distance to AN exit is <150', and I don't have any common travel paths >25'?

When I was originally reading it, I made a (probably dumb) assumption that there needed to be two exits within the maximum travel distance, but the more I read, the more I'm convinced that my thinking was incorrect. And, the discussion in this thread seems to confirm that.

Thanks so much!

But that only applies to the distance to ANY exit, correct?
Correct.
2021 IBC commentary on 1017 Exit Access Travel Distance…1017.2 Limitations (partial quote)
This table [Table 1017.2] reflects the maximum distance a person is allowed to travel from any point in a building floor area to the nearest exit along a natural and unobstructed path.

I made a (probably dumb) assumption that there needed to be two exits within the maximum travel distance
No, not really, that question has come up before on the forum.

Correct.

Thanks so much for the confirmation. As I explained it to my manager this morning, the maximum travel distance is to the NEAREST exit. That helped our understanding immensely.
