So how are you enforcing item 4????

Do you have a threshold of items before sprinklers are required???

Do you have a sq footage before sprinklers are required??

Or some other criteria???

903.2.7 Group M. An automatic sprinkler system shall be provided throughout buildings containing a Group M occupancy where one of the following conditions exists: [F]

1. A Group M fire area exceeds 12,000 square feet (1115 m2).

2. A Group M fire area is located more than three stories above grade plane.

3. The combined area of all Group M fire areas on all floors, including any mezzanines, exceeds 24,000 square feet (2230 m2).

4. A Group M occupancy is used for the display and sale of upholstered furniture.

They only rent upholstered furniture. They don't offer it for sale.

Been luckey and have not had to deal with it yet.

As written in 2009, the first chair in the store triggers sprinklers--a bit of an over reaction.

Virginia ammended this out completely.

For 2012 M goes to 5000 sq ft and for F-1 and S-1 it goes to 2500 sq ft for upholstered furniture or matresses --code change F69-09/10 approved AM

If not locally or state ammended I would think that a modification to reference the 2012 thresholds would be in order.
