WILLINGBORO — UPS on Monday promised to have a chat with its employee who parked perpendicular across three handicap parking spaces at the local Checkers fast-food restaurant on Route 130.
“We absolutely train our drivers on proper parking methods. They are taught to never park in disabled or handicapped parking spots,” said UPS public relations rep Dan McMackin. “Our local management team will sit down with this driver and make sure he is aware of his error.”
The driver Friday afternoon parked his UPS truck in the awkward fashion.Terri Rogers, a Hamilton mother with a handicapped daughter, took a picture of the park job and said she confronted the driver over the incident.
She said the able-bodied UPS driver told her that “we were never trained to not park in these spots.”
New Jersey handicap parking laws prohibit parking motor vehicles in handicapped spaces without a special vehicle identification card and mandate initial and subsequent fines of $250 each and up to 90 days of community services.
