Under 50 Occupant load we can have one restroom serving both sexes? Is an Urinal required for a B2 occupancy for a business.

Per the new code the restroom size will enlarge to include the required clearances of the water closet to the lav.

Let me know

Thanks for responding. I have been told that as well. But Section 422.1 Fixture count minimum number states we need to adhere by Table 422.1 (CPC) In this table for B2 one urinal is to be provided for 1-100 occupant load.

Hence, not sure what happens to that portion of the table which we need to adhere too?

ok no worries :-)

The interesting thing about 2013 CA code is there is a chapter 29 for Plumbing fixtures but it states not applicable in CA. Need to refer to CPC.

Sorry B occupancy.

Found the answer = Table 422.1 is only applicable to new buildings, additions to a building and changes of occupancy or type in an existing building resulting in increased occupant load.

So if you are doing a TI without a change of use or Occupant load the table is not applicable which means NO urinal is required.

thinker,

Also, a hearty Welcome to the Building Codes Forum ! 8-)

Wouldn't a change in Occ. Groups require the "new" Occ.

Group to comply with "new" construction requirements

and totals [ i.e. - refer to the `10 CPC, Table 4-1,

...separate restrooms required ] ?

CPC applies to New Buildings and additions and change of type or occupancy that may result in an increased occupant load.

Based on your TI, you "may" have an addition, best to check with the AHJ

Also do not forget SB 407, replacement of fixtures

Thank you everyone. Yes North Star change in occupancy will require application of related codes.

Mark yes if it is an addition then the table will apply.

but in this case there is no change in occupancy and no addition. Just alteration of the TI space to beautify and upgrade equipment. Therefore the 422.1 table does not apply and hence no urinal
