Utility room, fire code in NJ?

I am replacing the door to my laundry rm/utility room. My heater and water heater are located in there. The powder room is accessed from there as well. What, if any, are the fire codes governing the type of door that is needed between the house and laundry room and does it matter which way the door swings-into or out of the room?

When you hit on it does it sound hollow or solid??

Unless your city says otherwise, should be able to use any door, and swing does not matter.

I don't know of any requirement for a fire-rated door.

The door should be a louver door if the heater and/or water heater are fuel-fired and there are no ducts or grilles to provide combustion air.

It does not go to garage. It swung inward before and that’s the way I would like the new one to open but the contractor stated that fire code dictates that it opens inward.
