Not where I really want to be
This is version #2. The first one was 17 minutes long, and ICE thought it was too short and begged me to make it longer, so I shortened it to 6 minutes. Even @cda chimed in from retirement to send me a private message with some advice. You are better off opening it in Youtube where you can change the quality settings to 1440 for a better experience.

Can a visitor do a word search? Why not mention the word search?

You're overselling the Sawhorse City.

Do you sell private information? No? Well tell them that.

Ban links to photo's.

Don't even mention ads, People don't expect to be ad free. Once you get them to the site then you tell 'em. "Hey lady. You're a cutey, wanna go ad free."

Thank you. You can mention all of that in the thread as a reply. I'm not doing it a 3rd time.

Who has access to the search function.?

Who can edit a post….. details?

Overall I thought this was video was decent.

so I shortened it to 6 minutes
Shorter is better, you could do a supplemental video with extra information to cover the points you left out from the 17-minute version if you thought it was necessary. The length wasn’t too burdensome in my opinion.

That wouldn’t hurt.

This would be important for a lot of people.

The video says, “Occasionally you can put a link to a picture, we really don’t like that because we don’t have control over the photo…”. That’s the first I heard that, I thought the reason for allowing linking to images was to prevent guests from taking up server space without supporting the forum. If your concern is links becoming dead in the future then I’d considering banning links like ICE suggested.

Lastly, I noticed on the YouTube preview image you show a logo with a building but on the YouTube channel you have the hammerhead logo (which also shows in the top-left of the YouTube video preview,) I’d coordinate the use of the logos.

I have no way to ban links for those that are not Sawhorses.

I think that you are not satisfied with the video. You might try making a script and printing it here for review. Considering the objective, preparation is important.

My guess is the number of posts that might have dead links is so small compared to the total number of posts that dead links don’t significantly affect the value the forum offers. Better to keep uploading images a Sawhorse perk in the hopes that it will increase revenue.

“Decent” would mean overall well-produced and providing adequate information to pique someone’s interest in investigating the forum further.

If you use a script, just don’t make it sound like you’re reading a script. For me I’d just use an outline of points.

Maybe I missed it, but I don’t remember seeing the web address for the forum anywhere in this video. By comparison, in your video “”Welcome To The Building Code Forum” video on the main page of the forum YouTube channel, you tell us the website at about 15 seconds into the video.

I pretty much work in isolation, no network of peers found in a traditional in-office environment. This forum is my network of peers, and to be frank, I don't think I could be near as effective without it. I advise others in my situation to check out the forum, but I do a very poor job at trying to describe it.

The only two things that pop into my head if you were considering some post production editing:
-As Walker.t points out, maybe mention the web address a little more. I know its simple, but for those with short attention spans (like me) it may be effective.
-Emphasize the diversity of thought, region and expertise available on the forum. I have seen posts from virtually every state, and several foreign locations. Show how this could be the network of peers for us loners.

Being the luddite that I am, I was wondering how it would be seen by potential users. Then I saw posts referencing youtube. I never looked there before and I just watched that video. Both are good introductions to the forum, and now I can share the youtube link to promote the forum better.
