I have an apartment building with an access control system (card reader, keypad and intercom) mounted on a post within about 4' of the entry doors. The entry is a pair of double doors: One leaf is normally fixed with concealed bolts, and it has a concealed electric strike. This way the management can "buzz" people in - - literally, the solenoid makes a buzzing sound, and the active leaf can be pulled open.
Question: does ADA (and/or the California Building Code) also require some visual indicator at or near the exterior door handle itself (perhaps a green LED), so that a deaf person will know when the active door can be pulled open?
Or is some indicator (at the card reader / control system that is 4' away from the door) sufficient?
