We will shut down for approximately an hour, hopefully less, while we transition from Amazon's AWS to Google's server for improved service, capabilities, and lower costs. Amazon has more than doubled its prices recently, in an apparent move to pay for Bezos' wedding, I suppose. Please understand.

Great....now i won't be able to post anything...Probably going to get the shakes...

The new server is all set up and ready to go. We have to do some IP work, backup the current system, download it, and then upload it to the new server for testing. I will be shutting down the system before we do this so we don't lose any posts.
This is a go for tomorrow, Thursday, July 10, 2025. Pass the word.

Ah, jar546. Permit me a moment of sincerity before I inevitably lapse into theatrical indulgence.

You have built something rather remarkable here. Not just a forum, but a sanctuary. A smoky back room of code officials and construction minds where the brave come to share knowledge, bicker over footings, and mourn the passing of common sense in the modern building industry. And you keep the lights on. You steer the ship. You polish the brass while others toss overboard whatever is left of R-values and clarity in plan review notes.

I must say, my money is well spent here. Every dollar I contribute as a Sawhorse member feels like a minor investment in civilization itself. A tiny candle of reason flickering in the drafty cathedral of chaos we call building codes.

To you, jar546, I raise a glass. You have my gratitude. And my admiration. And if this forum ever requires more than my modest contribution, say a small team of private investigators or a discrete parcel of land in Uruguay, I am willing to entertain the idea.

Now, to the rest of you. Yes, you. The ones who post daily. The ones who scour every thread for code clarifications, inspection checklists, and new reasons to be annoyed with contractors named Rick. You benefit from this place. You thrive in it. You steal wisdom from it and then vanish into the night like a cat burglar with a stamped site plan.

And yet you remain unbadged. Ungilded. Uncommitted.

Let me be plain. It costs less than a night out at Applebee’s. Less than a bad Amazon impulse purchase. Less than the gas it takes to chase down a homeowner who thought their pergola did not require a permit.

Become a Sawhorse. Support this place. Stop loitering at the table without buying a drink. Do the right thing. Or do it just to shut me up. Either is acceptable.

Jar546, thank you again for keeping the doors open and the arguments civil. Well, mostly civil.

So the server was moved from Virginia with Amazon to Iowa with Google. This way, there is more consistency with latency for everyone. The West Coast folks should have a faster experience, and with Google's fiber backbone, everyone else should have a much faster experience, too. Try to remind those who are not Sawhorses to pony up and become a Sawhorse to help offset the costs of running this forum. We are in the slow period with less activity during the summer, so all revenue goes down, and I can't wait to get the bill from IT for the new server setup and transfer.

Anyway, talk your coworkers into prying open their wallets for this great resource.
