What Code Cycle Are US States In & What Cycle Is Pending

You should not be adopting any standard with a later edition then what is referenced in your adopted codes. The NEC is an NFPA standard that is referenced throughout the different codes.
 
Kansas is a home-rule state, so the codes are adopted city-by city. We're on the 2020 now, and most of the cities that have actual building departments are on at least the 2017 NEC.

Obviously, in the small towns and counties, anything goes.
 
I think NH pegged GFCI at 2017 levels so they are not progressive either...And so are States still requiring island and penninsula receptacles...
