about 1' east of the white water
It is just after 6 here in the east. Temp is 46 going to 80 today. Still dark and just about to load the rods and kayak to head to the lake. Looking for Muskie action this morning, but a few bass will also do just fine. Hope to take my grandson later today it would be his first time in a kayak for him. :D

I actually slept in, made it till 8:00! Usually 7:00 if I'm lucky. Going to do a little work around the house this weekend, spiffing up the basement bath, that never really was 100% done anyway. Daughter and son-in-law could be moving in as soon as their house sells, and until their new one is done. Thought it would be nice if the had a complete bathroom. Hoping for a scooter ride this afternoon, and then dinner with them. Mid -90's today, hot!

harvest the garden and put up some sauces for winter. Cut and split firewood for the winter on the property, then have a few beers with the neighbor. have dinner and walk 1000' ft. to the river and slay some fish.No catch and release tonight ,they are invited to the freezer for winter.

Did a liability insurance inspection this AM, then went to the gun show picked up a few boxes of shells. Got the SUV ready for the drive to Arkansas next weekend, mowed the grass. Now I am going to go plink off about 50 rounds with the new Glock 19 Gen 4. Never got over 75 and sunny most of the day

It was 100 on the deck in the shade, at 1:00'ish......no scooter ride, did enjoy a nice dinner with the kids on the patio with the misters going........

A buddy of mine was here visiting so I took him scuba diving this morning then showed him around the area. We donated a table and chairs to a needy family so this afternoon we drove it over and put it together for them. Off to get married and will be gone for a week. Hold down the fort starting Tuesday.

Well, it started about 3 weeks ago. I was released to day. I am sore, but will heal. I hope I am able to set up deer camp on Sept 27.

New to me Bike, or at least it was.

Any one want to buy a slightly used Road King? A few scratches, may polish out.

I have been looking for a bike for 3 or 4 years, but have not found anything that I liked. I do not like the bagger look, the huge bags make the bike look unbalanced. I do not want a Jap bike, don't want a crotch rocket and cannot afford a new HD or BMW, nor do I want a small bike. I do not really like the Sportster. And the chopper image makes me think of hells angels or brother speed or other 1% criminals.

I did not know what I wanted as much as I knew what I did not want. About 3 weeks ago I was in Pendleton, going by an independent bike shop. There was 2002 SE Road King

I just drove by, did not stop. On the way home, I drove by again, did not stop. I was in Pendleton working again and drove by. That time I turned around and stopped. $12,500.00. I asked about the bike, it was even better close up.

The pictures do not do this bike justice. In no particular order, custom paint from the factory, purple background with gray and silver flames, tach,27,000 miles, Road King SE, 1550 cc engine, 2 w/s, cruise, new seat, w/backrest in the middle, backrest/luggage rack at the back of the seat. Full disc wheels, chrome of course, crash bars, aux pegs, Rinehart mufflers 1995-2008 Touring Rinehart True Dual W / BLACK END CAPS 3.5 Inch Mufflers | Rinehart Racing , Redline oils, ( hold-on, I gotta get something to hold my right arm/shoulder up a bit higher. Nurse Dee brought me a pillow.) Tires have lots of miles left. HD fiberglass bags, with small leather HD (HD does not stand for Home Depot!) bags. There is more, this is a beautiful bike, never dropped. Two owners, present owner works at a bike shop, bike is always garaged. So the last week I have been on line, there are other Road Kings, $9,000.00 to $15,500.00. But none are special, just bikes. Yesterday, I stopped at the shop, and told Roy I was going to Pendleton. Then I looked him in the eye and asked if I could stay at his house if Dee would not let me in. I drove to Pendleton. I started at $9,000.00, and stopped at $10,500.00. I went to the bank and got a certified check for $10,500.00. I called my insurance company & told Debbie I wanted the best policy, with $25,000.00 medical. I chose the best full face helmet in the place. I left my Sprinter at the bike shop and headed down the road to the closest gas station. I was filling up the bike when the owner of the shop stopped and said he was going to ride with me a few minutes. Holy !!!!, did that thing haul *** !!!! I looked behind me using the mirrors, and the other guy must have thought I could handle it because he went home. His confidence was misplaced.

I Rode up Cabbage Hill. The bike did not corner at the same speed at the Sprinter, but it rode straight and true. I passed a couple of trucks and that was NO PROBLEM! But it did not corner as well as I expected. A few miles past the summit I pulled over and put my Carhartt sweatshirt under my denim jacket. This is an important detail. There was a truck coming, I pulled out on the freeway, and nailed that Road King. I hit 4th (5 speed transmission) and looked at the speedo. 80 MPH!!!! I have no idea what top speed is. Nor am I capable of handling the bike at that speed, 80 was too fast. I dropped to 60- 65 and cruised towards home.

I came into a section with some corners. I slowed down, way down, I remembered the corners going up Cabbage Hill. Damn, !!!!, I am drifting to the center divider! That is when it all went to hell! I could not get the bike back to the right. I do remember thinking, this is going to hurt. I did slow if down to abut 25 or 30 when I hit the divider. We started to bounce back to the right side of the freeway. When I stopped, the bike was stopped at the concrete bridge abutment. I was behind the bike, I was not sore but I knew that going change. I think I was on the bike, but am not sure. I do remember seeing the sky, then the pavement, but have no idea just when that was. I do remember the top of the tank was dented. The w/s was in front of the bike, on the road. The bags were torn up. I took my helmet off, and there were scratches on it. $120.00 was a great investment! A couple of people stopped and came back to me. One was an RN, one worked for Milton-Freewater FD, part of Metro West. One of them called 911, soon I could hear sirens and then a State Trooper stopped, & the La Grande FD ambulance. Then some forestry guys from Coos Bay. The bike was uprighted and left against the concrete, awaiting the next wrecker on the rotation. The ambulance guys helped me in, and we headed for the Grande Ronde Hospital. (one of our accounts)I got to ER and had them call Roy. I asked him to got get Dee and bring her to ER. He did. Now remember, I did not discuss this bike thing with her and did not tell her I was going to Pendleton look at it, again. She was not happy. She made sure that my allergy to narcotic drugs was noted on my chart. I had already been to the Cat Scan Room where they found 3 through 6 ribs on the right side were broken. I spent the night, and Dee came back to the hospital about 9.00 AM. We got home before our druggist closed for the weekend. I am on T-3 and it does not do as good at the needle did.

I think my work schedule is going to be changed for the next few weeks. I just hired a new guy, I will be working with him. My ribs hurt, my Shoulders hurt, chest hurts, my hands have road rash and are still leaking blood. My knees have road rash, But, I am alive and will heal. I am not sure about the bike, I think it belongs to the insurance company now. Sure glad I went for the more expensive insurance plan. The extra $400.00 will cover up to $25,000.00 of Medical expense.

Just woke from a late nap. I've been looking at travel trailers and they cost too much and are made out of crap. I was checking craigslist and bought a 15' L X 8'W X 7' H; former construction trailer w/ 2X4 walls and tandum axles; and drew up a plan to see if I could make it into my final home. I'll have a 32" X 32" shower, water closet, and lavatory at one end. On one side a 14 cu. ft. fridge w/top freezer; 30" sink cabinet w/double sink and two 15" W, 3 drawer cabinet bases. Above these a double door 30" W, 2 shelf wall cabinet. The other side will have a 32" entry door; a 24" D X 20" W, electric range w/oven and 28" table for computer, writting and dining. At the end I still have space for a twin bed (bunks if I need it). I could put a full size bed in if I eliminate one of the 15" base cabinets. I can put windows at the bathroom, kitchen sink and above the bed. It has a steel roof and sides and is insulated. I have a minimum of 2' 8" walkway down the middle; and plenty of room for my office chair. It has a 2by floor which I plan to sheath with 3/4" ply-wood and has 3/8" wall covering. So, I spent this Saturday cleaning it up and drawing plans. I paid $ 1200 for it and from what I've found will cost another 3 grand to furnish it; and maybe a grand for electical and finish it inside to make it homey. So, for about $ 5,200 I'll have a home I can move/relocate if the need arises. Not a bad Saturday. Uncle Bob

@ fireguy.........Yikes, my friend!

That sucks! But it is amazing, even though when you have, in my case, been riding for 40+ years, how things can go to he!! in a hand basket. Just last week, had not been on the Fatboy for a few weeks........ jumped on the bike with the wife....then had to do a couple little corrections, and thought, what the heck? Finally got my scooter legs under me, but left me with a once again renewed respect for the machine. Glad you are up and around to tell the tale. Heal up, hope it doesn't keep you off two wheels. Get well.........

BTW...........sounds like it was a fine scooter...........

@UB.........now that sounds like a fine plan for your winding down time. Buddy of mine bought a 15' cargo trailer that he and his wife converted in to a minimalistic toy hauler for their scooter. They love it. Bigger is not always better.......enjoy my friend............

Uncle Bob, you scared the crap out me! "drew up a plan to see if I could make it into my final home. "

Your final home only needs to be 6' by 3' by 3'. Or the size of a shot glass if you go really small.

Then I read it again.

Are you going to have the trailer inspected?

It appears to be a diverse day for you all. First, let me wish Jeff all the best and a happy ever after. Chris you're not the only one that worked. After a return for the lake I worked on reports for several hours and than cut the grass or at least most of it. had planned to return to the lake late in the day, but my son had family time planned so grandson was not available. Had my granddaughter out with me a few weeks back and it is amazing how fast she learned to control the kayak and fish too. Maybe today we will go because it is my grandsons turn.

Fireguy, You and me were typing at the same time. Sorry to hear about your great dream turning into a bad dream. My best wishes for you and your family while you heal. I'm starting to see some good about living in Oklahoma. When I first started working here; a trailer park owner started building a trailer from scratch; just had a frame. I told the owner about my concerns and started checking state laws. Yep, I can build; or in this case remodel; my own and get it licensed in Oklahoma. Travel trailers, mobile and/or manufactured homes built in Oklahoma are not inspected by local municipalities; and not required to be inspected by state law. This little honey is going to be so solid and safe, it almost qualifies as a storm shelter :) . Crap, I completely overlooked Jeff getting married. A song for Jeff; http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6jYsyD3Hiw4 Uncle Bob

Fireguy, Dam!!! Get well buddy. I have been getting ready for Atlantic City. Have some really cool stuff planned. Shot 150 rounds on the skeet field yesterday. Taking the tarp off the big squares today for feeding. Green Bay game this afternoon at my son in laws.

Been clearing a path 600' up the mountain behind the house to get a wireless signal from the peak 6 miles away. Finally dried up enough again to pull trees down without tearing things up. The next victim was a chestnut oak, notorious for bad form but this was not a bad tree. Also known as sill oak, it's the only leaky white, no whiskey barrels out of this one. Notched and bore cut and she sat on the saw. Unhooked the sawhead and rigged 240' of cable and a snatch block and pulled it down into the haul path. Course the old 4x4 beater had a flat so hook up the compressor and deal with that first. Drug the top out and called a new neighbor who needs wood, loaded up, she was delighted. Just got the stem down and to the mill 2 nice 12'ers and an interesting 12' arched section. There's 3 more of the same species to come out with more arches... I see an interesting timberframe entry.
