If we renovate an office suite what signs or parts of the sign have to be accessible? Code section & verse would be nice.

e.g. if we have signs inside the suite with the room # to an office where the room number is raised text with braille below it BUT the name of the person in the office is not raised text and/or braille is that ok?

The signs in the hallway leading to the suite have NO raised lettering or braille at all...

1007 has the requirements for tactile exit signs (raised letters & braille).

1110 has the general sign requirements.

The Person's name is not considered part of the "permanent rooms & spaces" requirement in ADA (didn't have time to verify ANSI) per the fed DOJ opinion, unless the person's name is the only sign designation to identify the room. The name can also be a problem when a room like a conference room is only identified by a name, then name on sign requires raised letters & braille.

Wayfinding, building directories and directional indicators, are generally exempt from tactile requirements per ADA (didn't have time to verify ANSI).

CT has an amendment that pretty much covers all signs.....Not sure where it came from, maybe ADA or we just have a really strong sign lobby....

(Add) 1110.4 Interior signage. Interior signs that designate permanent rooms and spaces shall be raised text characters and Braille, designed and located in accordance with ICC/ANSI A117.1-2003. Mounting location for signage shall be such that any person approaching the signage will not encounter protruding objects, or stand within the swing of any door.

Put the names on after CO....
