Who is in charge of the Code Enforcement / Code Compliance Department?

Is your Code Compliance department under the:
1) Building Department
2) Police Department
3) Stand Alone Department
4) Other
is anyone in a department with both Building and Code Compliance? If so, do you all chip in and help each other out? Like in my department, everyone comes in as a housing inspector (code compliance) and works their way up to new construction (Building department) (Besides the two Plans Examiners), so if there is a lot to do on a certain day in housing, we’ll have someone in new construction help with an appointment or complaint. But it’s like pulling teeth once these guys get up to new construction, like they are above helping down in housing.

Just wondering if anyone else has a similar experience?

And the workload is miles apart. There are 3 guys in the Building Department, and they usually have 1-3 things on their calendar to split between the 3 of them. We currently have 3 in Housing, and our calendar is double-booked every hour with countless unscheduled complaints coming in. Not to mention code court, emergency calls, proactive work, etc. we are drowning, they are napping.

in a nutshell, our director has ruined everything because he is not qualified, and he literally does NO work all day. He has the b*lls to read novels at his desk on the tax payers dime.

but anyway….
