Jeff,

Just wondering, what do you do for wood or cement board siding?

Vinyl is an easy check and if you find it correct an easy fix, but do remove the wood?

Tom

Just had two exactly like this....one of them was a contractor that does a ton of work for the local housing authority!!!!

What do you mean vinyl isn't waterproof?

Got one municipality out my way that allows the contractors to "paint" the OSB and considers that method an acceptable code practice. No wrap or any type of weather barrier.

How about that sports fans!

You're kidding is right, Mule.. wow..

What I would like to see is a return to board siding rather than structural "panels"... you can't get them close enough to prevent air passage... you can't PREVENT air passage anyway, so engineer a good system to allow the wall to breathe.

Can't tell you how many times I've seen wood walls deteriorate BECAUSE of our new code provisions. Water is going to get into the walls.. let it get out.

My old house in Michigan had NO insulation.. our fuel bills were not bad.. and when we did open the walls, all the studs looked like they were new out of the lumber yard. The walls dried out in the normal course of... well.. existing.. healthy home.. hope we didn't make things worse by insulating those walls.
