Why I'm becoming ashamed to admit that I'm an architect

I got a response from an architect the other day. He had a room with a single exit, travel distance of 200'+ to that exit. I wrote him up for Common Path of Egress Travel (IBC 1006.2.1). He proceeds to tell me that--based on the chapter 2 definition of Common Path of Egress Travel--Table 1006.2.1 doesn't apply to this room. Apparently Common Path of Egress Travel only applies when a space has access to 2 or more exits, but since this space has 1 exit he only has to meet the 250 feet overall exit travel distance... sigh...
