I have high rise and hospital building which has Fire Smoke dampers. Should the Fire Smoke Dampers (FSD) be installed in emergency circuit or standby circuit or equipment circuit?

Do you have to comply with NFPA 101 and I Codes???

Part of a smoke removal system?????????????

Not my area, but seems like, depending on where they are in the building, might just be part of the defend in place system, and you would want them to actuate, or fail to the desired postion, for the defend in place/ smoke compartments

They for the duct detector/smoke damper. The fire smoke dampers are installed in the mechanical duct. The mechnical ducts in which they are placed in serve both a corridor and shell space.
Yes we have ro comply with nfpa 101 codes.
So does the Fire Smoke Detector (FSD) have to be on emergency life and safety branch or equipment branch circuit?

Ask the mechanical Engineer.

This is a true high rise, and hospital in one???
Yes. The Fire Smoke Damper is installed where dict penetrate the wall which is fire rated.
So in order to maintain the Fire or Smoke rating the fire smoke damper is installed.
The air handler unit is also on equipment branch.

When their is a smoke the smoke detector signal fire alarm control panel which then signal the damper shut. Even when generator kick in equipment branch if their is smoke the dampers would be shut by the fire alarm control panel.

So what do you thin in terms of being in equipment branch or emergency branch?

Ok last question

No generator involved

If they loose power,,, do they fail open or shut???

I believe there are two types of smoke only dampers (as opposed to combination fire and smoke dampers); those held open under normal power which close upon loosing power; and those which require emergency power to close.

I'm not understanding your position in this and why the electrical engineer and mechanical engineer are not coordinating this. They do - or did since I'm retired - on projects I consulted on.

If you know what dampers are being specified, I suggest looking at their installation manual and/or calling that manufacturer's tech support. Much more reliable than an internet bulletin board.

The really hard part of smoke dampers seems to be the periodic testing and assuring there is access.

Dampers shut when their is no power. I just want to know should they be on equipment branch or emergency branch for high rise hospital building?

Well I answered your question. No response came?

Sounds like that is the answer

Other than ask the mechanical engineer, which is what I would do.

How are you connected with all this,,,? What is your job

I dont get it which one equipment branch or life and safety branch? This is hospital high rise and their is no emergency branch

Ok I still dont get it. How is that the answer to would the dampers motors be on equipment branch or life and safety branch? Please elaborate further

To better approach the answer

How are you connected with the project??

What do you do for a living

Yet another question to your last question. I answered that and yet another pin silent. No response to my question

As I said if I were reviewing the project

The question back to the group/ mechanical engineer

1. Is this part of a smoke removal system

2, is this part of a smoke compartment

3. State “damper fail close “ meets code

Sounds like fail close, without having above questions answered, meets code
