I'll try posting this again but in the proper forum.

For purposes of discussion, an existing six story building:

1st Fl
Existing Use B (4) Proposed Use B (4)
2nd Fl
Existing Use M (3)/B (4) Proposed Use A-2 (3), A-3 (3), M (3), R-1 (3)
3rd Fl
Existing Use B (4), R-2 (3) Proposed Use R-1 (3)
4th Fl -6th Fl
Existing Use R-2 (3) Proposed Use R-1 (3)

These are relating to Table 1012.4 by way of example. Does the fact that, in total, no proposed use is to a higher hazard then currently exists mean that the change of use can be considered as a change to an equal or lower hazard category for purposes of evaluating 1012.4, 1012.5 and 1012.6?

See response to other post - also you can do partial changes of occupancy within a building if you desire - if not, then the entire building would have to be reclassified to the highest hazard or most restrictive requirements- Not any different than in a new building allowing you to use separated or non- separated provisions of the building code.
