Fire stopping Just asking

So a sleeve penetrates a rated corridor wall.

On the corridor side does the end of the sleeve have to be properly sealed?

It depends on the firestop assembly used, which is based on the penetrating items and the construction being penetrated.
 
Well kind of just looking at the pictures situation.

So far they only fire stop caulked around the gray pipe, at the rated wall, on the corridor side.

So currently the sleeve is open from the corridor, thru the rated wall, into the room on the other side of the rated wall.
 
1. Is the corridor required to be rated?
2. If no, then the penetration is not required to be protected with a firestop assembly.
3. If yes, then the penetration is not protected (yet, I assume). I would ask for a copy of the proposed assembly to be used to see if what is currently installed will eventually comply with the assembly.
 
Yes rated corridor and required to be rated.

Well there are two other agencies looking at the fire stopping, and this is what I see.

The other two agencies have basically said it is good??
 
Is the "pipe" a standard PVC pipe or could this be a firestop device designed so that cables can easily be removed and added? These types of firestop devices typically have an intumescent material that expands when exposed to fire and seals off the opening.
 
We typically some removable goop inside the pipe. It has to be easily removable to pull more wires, but it has to seal in the event of a fire. And i think we usually use short sections of 4” emt.

Nope just scrap pipe

I am at the bottom of the approving process which this should have been handled a long time ago, but is not.

pull them out of the "thru penetration", ...install
a compliant, rated device, or [ possibly ] cut the
gyp. board out larger than the existing pvc piping,
...install a compliant device to encapsulate the
existing pvc piping & conductors and seal completely
around the device with fire rated caulking, or other ?
NOTE: A given would be to discuss with the FCO \
BO for their input & approval of a "fix".

But seems like there has to be one that comes apart either hinged or bolted??

That is when a contractor should know and are responsible for knowing what is supposed to be done and in a proper manner - That would come under the heading of I don't know how YOU are going to fix your non code complaint installation. I would suggest calling a third party field rep (3M, STI, etc.) and obtain an engineered judgement of what to do if you do not want to install a fire rated collar as typically required for that size piping especially when PVC is used..
