Section 402.4.3 of the 2009 IECC requires new wood burning fire places to have gasket door and outside combustion air.
Several mason have asked me if a Lyemance chimney top damper instead,
http://www.chimneydampersource.com/lyemancedamper.htm
There are several other similar “energy effect” dampers available
While the 2012 IECC sections 402.4.2 allows tight fitting flue dampers.
Discussion;
1) Is a chimney top damper a tight fitting flue damper?
2) Would those that are enforcing the 2009 IECC allow the top damper
3) If one was using a top damper have there been problems with warm moist air condensing in the chimney flue?
4) Other comments…
