I have a builder that wants to use some play netting as a large hommock at a hotel. The hammock would elevated so patrons could see the river. Are there any codes or comments on how or whether I should permit this?

So this hammock/net would be elevated several feet off the floor … how would they get to it? A ladder? What keeps them from falling out? Would they have one that meets accessible requirements?

Thank you for the input, the netting is designed for use in this capacity. It is typically used in play parks for climbing and traversing areas over other structures or between trees like an outdoor adventure park. I dont believe there is an ADA requirement for it because of occupancy of the business. This is a preliminary request for is it would need to be permitted. I just cant find anything within the code to point to for permitting. Thank you fellas, love all the responses, very helpful to have others to lean on for info.

Is this custom? What's it being attached to?

If custom, I assume an engineer would need to be involved to ensure that the net and anchors can withstand the weight of however many people are on it.

If it becomes popular with the college age kids, expect it to be like a deck but with dynamic movement built in. Couple of beers, lets see how many folks we can get on the netting and how high it will bounce.

From the original post, I envisioned something like a cargo net and a crane, that would swing a net load of people up and/or out for views of whatever. Then the follow-up posts suggested that this will be more of a fixed installation that's intended to act like a see-through floor. And then someone mentioned seeing how high it would bounce, and my thought was to wonder if it's subject to bouncing, what's going to protect people from being bounced clean out/off it? What sort of perimeter fall protection/guards are proposed? A standard 42-inch high guard is deemed to be adequate protection adjacent to a firm walking surface, but a standard 42-inch high guard was never intended as protection when the "floor" is effectively a trampoline.
