sample layouts for ICC A117.1 (2017)

Hello All,

I'm wondering if anyone can post a document with sample layouts of single-user toilet rooms which comply with ANSI/ICC 117.1 (2017). Thank you!

At least 50% of the stock details I see have problems. Here is one straight from the 2017 ANSI standard. Which I think has a problem. I don't rely on the pictures for all the technical requirements. FWIW, the single biggest issue I encounter in plan review is the clear space requirement.

One of the things I try to instill when teaching classes on access to architectural firms is to get the office involved.

I also do this when I guess speak at some colleges from time to time.

Send out an inner office email or class challenge each month with a task for everyone to submit a better commonly used standard design.

Your office could do one on single user compliant bathrooms and the winner gets a dinner, bonus and or day off with pay.

This pushes newer designers to think, research and create options to be reviewed and gone over and produces educational training and library's of options.

My personal rule is to never follow diagrams made by anyone other than Access Board / other applicable government entity. Even then, don't blindly follow them.

I've had employees blindly follow the Bobrick guides, not realizing they don't apply to California (we don't use A117.1) and in some cases conflict with our code. It's gotten to the point I actively try to dissuade people from looking at any manufacturer's diagrams for ADA requirements.
