251,000 S.F. mixed use, new construction containing occupancy types "A" and "E"
Type 1B construction (protected, unlimited area building)
Fully Sprinklered
2018 IBC and 2018 NFPA 101 LSC are applicable.

Per 2018 NFPA 101 - 14.3.7.2 (2) "buildings protected throughout by an approved, supervised automatic sprinkler system in accordance w/ Section 9.7" [do not require subdivision of building spaces into compartments]

Couldn't find anything in chapter 12 requiring subdivision / compartmentalization

Couldn't find anything in IBC 2018 requiring subdivision / compartmentalization for this type of building

When I designed a similar building in 2000, NFPA 101 Section 14.3.7.2 required compartmentalization but the sprinkler removed the 30,000 SF limitation on compartment size as long as no less than 2 compartments were provided.

Has the compartmentalization requirement been removed by exception 14.3.7.2 (2)? What am I missing?

Thanks

The subdivision applies only to the educational occupancies. Apparently assembly occupancies do not have the same requirements as for educational occupancies. If the building is sprinklered throughout, then it appears through Section 14.3.7.2 that the smoke compartmentalization is not applicable, so you won't have to address in either occupancy.

The 2018 IBC does not have a requirement for Group E smoke compartmentalization.

OK. I thought I had my rose colored glasses on while reading that sprinkler exception, but it's sounds like you all arrived as the same conclusion. Thanks. You guys are awesome
