How do you separate two different occupancies where no separation is required. :)

It's 311.2 Moderate-Hazard Storage, Group S-1 specifically: motor vehicle repair garages complying with the maximum allowable quantities of hazardous materials listed in Table 307.1(1) (see Section 406.8)

How do you separate two different occupancies where no separation is required. :)

Meant that S-1 is an accessory occupancy within that B occupancy.

Yes, sorry, in my mind I was thinking “accessory occupancy”. Thank you again.

Help assessing if these corridors need to be rated.

thanks @LR419! Just emailed my senator to vote to fully pass.

How do you separate two different occupancies where no separation is required. :)

Thank you. > If this is the same project we’ve been talking about on a different thread then your stairs will need to be enclosed and rated because you’ll be penetrating the horizontal assembly between S-1 on the first floor and B on the second floor. Indeed it is. I would assume that...

How do you separate two different occupancies where no separation is required. :)

Thank you, but i'm still don't quite understand, per the following, i thought if you separated occupancies per Section 508, that each occupancy area could realize their individually allowed number of stories. Again, perhaps my interpretation is wrong...

How do you separate two different occupancies where no separation is required. :)

Thank you. Something doesn't align for me. Hypothetically, if you had an unsprinklered mixed-used Type VB with (B) and (A-2) occupancies, you could use a 2 hr fire barrier, so the (B) could be 2 stories and the (A-2) could be 1 story. Now if you take (B) and (S-1), which has less of a fire...

Ugg, looks like it 'just' changed. Thank you.

How do you separate two different occupancies where no separation is required. :)

If you want to separate (B) from (S-1) per the following table, do you interpret it as it needs to be separated, but the separation is 0 rated? Or do you interpret it as it doesn't need a separation at all (that is no physical barrier at all)? ... I ask because I have a type VB where I'd...

Help assessing if these corridors need to be rated.

@Yankee Chronicler, @walker.t thank you for your perspectives. I guess i was considering this a mezzanine, but i can see how maybe it would not qualify. If it is considered a story, the 2015 table_1006.3.2-2 says Common Path of Travel...

Help assessing if these corridors need to be rated.

I believe the common path of travel is 100ft, for an unsprinklered S or B under 30 occupants. https://up.codes/viewer/wisconsin/ibc-2015/chapter/10/means-of-egress#table_1006.2.1 I've measured the 'common path of travel' to the base of the stair, since from there, 2 exit paths are available to...

Thanks @walker.t As a thought exercise, what if that corridor didn't go through intervening spaces? That is the top sketch.

Help assessing if these corridors need to be rated.

I'm working on a 5300sf unsprinklered, Type VB (B) & (S-1) Repair garage and car dealership.. The occupancy count is 49. Question: per TABLE 1020.1, do the corridors needed to be rated for 1hr? https://up.codes/viewer/wisconsin/ibc-2015/chapter/10/means-of-egress#table_1020.1 The corridor...

Going above 3 stories using a 'horizontal exit'

Why do the upper floors need to be ADA accessible, if you're able to get all your required ADA units on the 1st floor, and there's no public amenities on any of the floors above.

Going above 3 stories using a 'horizontal exit'

Anyone ever use the following exception to go over 4 stories without an elevator in a R2? https://up.codes/viewer/wisconsin/ibc-2015/chapter/10/means-of-egress#1009.2.1

For the required 2nd exit from a (B) tenant on the 2nd floor, can it go through another tenant space?

Thanks @steveray, unfortunately 1016.2.1 does not allow one tenant to pass through another tenant space. In this particular example, the smaller tenant space is about 40% of the larger tenant space, so we cannot use the exception--if i'm interpreting it correctly.

For the required 2nd exit from a (B) tenant on the 2nd floor, can it go through another tenant space?

For the required 2nd exit from a (B) tenant on the 2nd floor, can it go through another tenant space? This is sprinklered Type VB. I would think it could since the corridor (dashed blue line), in the red tenant space, doesn't need to be a rated corridor, since it is sprinklered. I know about...

Type 2 hood - Induction range

But what if you can't rely on the overall HVAC system to accommodate? Are there any scenarios where a Type 2 hood is not necessary, if you can't rely on the overall HVAC? What if you're just warming up water, or warming up food. I'm just trying to parse out what that line is.

Type 2 hood - Induction range

Let's say you're using an induction range to cook things that don't produce grease vapors. Does this condition always require a Type 2 hood? Or are there scenarios, in addition to the exception listed below, where a Type 2 is not required? exception: except where the heat and moisture loads...

If you have a (i-4) on the 1st floor of a 3 story, sprinklered, Type VB building with (B)'s on the 2nd and 3rd stories, is the floor rating 1 or 2 hr

Honestly, because the code reviewer said so. That's why i asked. However, just 'now', they replied back and said they were wrong and that 707.3.9 applies, and can be 1 hr.

If you have a (i-4) on the 1st floor of a 3 story, sprinklered, Type VB building with (B)'s on the 2nd and 3rd stories, is the floor rating 1 or 2 hr

If you have a (i-4) on the 1st floor of a 3 story, sprinklered, Type VB building with (B)'s on the 2nd and 3rd stories, is the floor rating 1 or 2 hours? Does this one apply.. https://up.codes/viewer/wisconsin/ibc-2015/chapter/5/general-building-heights-and-areas#508.4 or does this one...

Does community greenhouse, and common grounds of a number of detached dwelling units, need to be ADA accessible?

I could be wrong, but that "4 or more" seems like it's tied to units inside multifamily building. The following quotes, from the Fair Housing Act, seems to hint in that direction... "The design and construction requirements of the Fair Housing Act apply to all new multifamily housing...

Does community greenhouse, and common grounds of a number of detached dwelling units, need to be ADA accessible?

The developer is doing it privately, through bank loans. Probably won't be FHA loans.

Does community greenhouse, and common grounds of a number of detached dwelling units, need to be ADA accessible?

The following project has (8) individual detached dwelling units centered around a 'courtyard' type of space. There is a small (~500sf) community greenhouse/patio that would only be used by the residences of the community. Per 1103.2.3, am i correct to assume none of the spaces, whether inside...
