Less insulation in a semi-conditioned space?

In the project below, the owner's looking to condition the garage, but only to ~55 degrees. Zone 6. As such, they think they can decrease the amount of insulation on the courtyard. Does anyone know if there's any means, either through the IBC or IMC, that allows this? Our AHJ requires us to...

Can 36"x36" transfer showers in a Type B unit have a curb threshold that's larger than 1/2"?

    We're under ANSI A117.1 2009. Can a 36"x36" transfer shower in a Type B unit have a curb threshold that's larger than 1/2"?

Top plate penetrations in a 1/2hr floor assembly

Exception 7 of 714.4.2 Membrane Penetrations says the following... We have a R-2 project with 1/2hr floors between units. Below is the detail we (and the panelizer) are proposing for a non-bearing partition inside the units. Question: Would the 2x and 1x plate be a code compliant membrane...

EPS on an Exterior Wall - Type B

Thanks Ron, there is, and in this case that will work. It sounds as though a thermal barrier is necessary, however, with a Type VB.

EPS on an Exterior Wall - Type B

sorry meant XPS, but the same question applies.

EPS on an Exterior Wall - Type B

I have a 3 story, Type VB, R-2 w/ sprinklers. Can we apply EPS insulation over the sheathing on the exterior wall? Per 602.5 Type V, 'any material permitted by this code'. But per Chapter 26, it appears we need a thermal barrier if we do use EPS foam. I ask, because i'm also getting...

Figuring out SF/OCC of a corridor with services multiple uses.

More a general question, as I was trying to tease out how to determine the load from a corridor that serves multiple uses.

Figuring out SF/OCC of a corridor with services multiple uses.

Per TABLE 1004.1.2 MAXIMUM FLOOR AREA ALLOWANCES PER OCCUPANT, what would the SF/OCC be in the following condition?

Clear width in front of shower?

@Builder Bob , 2009 ICC A117.1 is the applicable code in our area. @mark handler, I guess i'm not following. If you mirror your sketch vertically along the center point of the shower, the clearances would still be accommodated.

    Stacked Washer/Dryer - Type B Unit

Yes, for this particular case. The project is in Wisconsin, 2009 ICC A117.1 applies, as I understand it.

Clear width in front of shower?

This is in a Type B unit, btw.-- not sure that makes a difference.

    Stacked Washer/Dryer - Type B Unit

For what it's worth, our AHJ says a stacked washer/dryer is okay in a Type B unit as long as it's front loading.

Clear width in front of shower?

Does the dimension below need to be 3ft per 403.5.1 Clear Width or would there be some exception here?

Unvented roof - maximum R-value the air-permeable insulation can be below the deck?

In Zone 6, Per 1203.3.5.1.2, if R-25 rigid (impermeable) insulation is used above the deck per table 1203.3 to control condensation, is there a maximum R-value the air-permeable insulation can be below the deck?

Limit on fixtures in a rated floor/ceiling assembly

Thanks everyone. Per this conversation, ff anyone's interested, added a few floor/ceiling UL assemblies to our open source Revit template https://github.com/OpeningDesign/OD_Library/blob/master/BIM/OD_Revit_Template.rte

    A UL assembly allows a 2x4 - swap out a recessed can?

Upon @rgla's assessment here, it appears any fixture could be swapped in as long as it matches the rating of the assembly itself.

    Stacked Washer/Dryer - Type B Unit

even though I can find stackable washer/dryers that claim they are ADA accessible, I'm not so sure they really can be. It seems the top dryer door would be too far up to reach.

    Stacked Washer/Dryer - Type B Unit

From my understanding, they make stacked washer/dryers that are ADA compliant. Assuming that is correct, with a stacked washer/dryer arrangement in a Type B Unit, can the 30"x48" clearance be a forward approach, or would it need to be a parallel approach centered on the fixture, as illustrated...

Limit on fixtures in a rated floor/ceiling assembly

For example, the following UL restricts 24 sq ft (of 2x4 fixtures) per 100 sq ft of ceiling area. https://iq.ulprospector.com/en/profile?e=14281 Am I to assume, if the fixture is not rated, but has 'fixture protection' to cover it as outlined in the UL listing above, than the fixtures would be...

    A UL assembly allows a 2x4 - swap out a recessed can?

If a particular UL listing accommodates a 2x4 fixture in a ceiling/floor assembly, is there any method for using a recessed can instead? Or does the UL listing have to specifically outline provisions for a recessed can? If so, that seems odd to me.

Limit on fixtures in a rated floor/ceiling assembly

With certain UL listed floor/ceiling assemblies, there's limits with how many light fixture penetrations you can have per a certain SF. Generically, does this limit apply even if the fixture has an equal rating as the assembly? That is, if you have an 1hr rated floor/ceiling for example, can...

Min. sill height for an operable window on a upper floor?

Let's say you have a double hung window on a multiple story multifamily. If the bottom sash is operable, does it have to be a min. of 42" a.f.f.? For safety reasons, this seems right, but conventionally, it seems there's a number of newish projects out there that don't adhere to this. Is there...

Calculated Fire Resistant - Swap out Timber with Equivalent Sistered 2X?

Let's say you use the following to determine that a 3"x5.5" timber will be enough for a certain fire X rating. https://www.awc.org/pdf/codes-standards/publications/tr/AWC-TR10-1510.pdf Is it possible to swap out the 3"x5.5" timber with (2) sistered 2x6's?
