The Use of Fiber Reinforced Concrete

I've seen it used quite a few times with a lot of success except for one time when a concrete tank was formed using it. In that case it provided a channel for the tank to leak, I forget what it contained but it was a somewhat hazardous material the tank ended up having to be trained cleaned and...

Do You Still Refer To Architectural Drawings as "Blueprints?"

In most cases we just call them Drawings, that allows any format such as printed, copied or even colored copies to fall under one umbrella.

    Accessible Parking or Not?

I don't see that as being compliant for several reasons. The 1st as you pointed out that should be over next to the curb of the building instead of where they are. The 2nd is because they don't have the Req spacing for a ramp van to put the ramp down.

    Working space for hot tub

It's no different than working in a crawlspace which is what many houses have so I don't see where it's a problem.

Breakaway CMU Walls in VE Flood Zones

It certainly doesn't look like a breakaway wall.

Lawn Sprinkler Installation - Domestic Water

You probably need to check somebody local because requirements about tapping into water systems are quite local and very from place to place.

    Elevator? 2 stories and a basement - A-2's and R-2.

I was thinking the same thing, assuming they are completely different restaurants they both would have to be accessible to be code compliant.

Backside of counter meet CA ADA req?

I gut feeling is that it doesn't because the side where customers arrive at it doesn't meet the height requirement. Unless they allow customers to come to the backside (which I highly doubt) and place signage for this I don't see how it can meet the requirements.

    Gas Line Over Driveway

Yes, I would ask them to bury it. The other option would be elevating it to meet the IFGC 404.9 mentioned earlier but that would create a definite tripping hazard for pedestrians and would be completely unacceptable for vehicle traffic.

    catastrophic failure during erection

Looking at that last picture which clearly shows a weld failure I'm sure that the welding and other fabrication procedures for the PEMB building itself will come under close scrutiny.

Portable spa in a commercial building

Here's another company https://www.surehands.com/ that makes lifts that can be used for access to a spa or pool. I've also seen several instances where they are used to put people on horses.

Rebar Size vs. Stirrup Count: What's Often Overlooked?

Assuming the shop drawings indicate the correct spacing and quantity of stirrups to contractors going to have some explaining to do if he has some of them left over. On the same basis, that shop is responsible for the correct sizes of Bars based on the shop drawings, not the contractor in most...

Another Failed Inspection Passed by Inspector

What can/do you do in a case like this?

    Not In The Work Area

Don't sign off on the inspection you are there for, make a notation on the refusal stating why it wasn't passed.

    Am I an alarmist?

It doesn't matter if there are kids playing in the area or not. It just takes one child playing in the area who's inquisitive to cause same disaster for the child and his/her parents. It shouldn't be being done and contractor to do it should suffer consequences.

Understanding NEC 404.14(F) Dimmer & Electronic Control Switches

I looked at the bulbs you are talking about but both are also very expensive. Not a few can buy LED dimmers that are reasonably priced and when a bulb without you just have to replace a reasonably priced bulb, much cheaper in the long run.

Confusing: "the length of the landing shall not be required to be more than 48 inches"

I've never looked at that section but I certainly agree that it's very confusing in both cases.

Rebar Size vs. Stirrup Count: What's Often Overlooked?

It certainly looks like it was a field bend. Either that or a shop that didn't care about uniform bends.

Mandatory Electrical Conduit in New Residential Construction

That may be true for materials etc. but I wonder what the cost differential is if you factor in labor. Labor to install conduit and pull wires has to be significantly higher than running Romex!

Mandatory Electrical Conduit in New Residential Construction

I don't see what help anything other than possibly the unions. It also rates the cost of new construction.

    Building Codes for Home-based Businesses:

I think it greatly depends on what kind of home-based business you are talking about. Something with few if any clients and only 1 or 2 employees wouldn't be a big problem in most areas but something with high traffic flow or outdoor equipment would. Trying to determine which would and which...

    Logo Changes Revisited

I like the top left, it's got interesting graphics as well as the Req information. I would probably make .com text larger.

    2x6 span 16’

I seen a couple of cases where "homemade" beams were made sandwiching a piece of 3/8" steel plate between 2 wooden beams and bolting through the assembly. Depending on how many beams you're going to need this may be a good approach however you probably should get a engineer to sign off on it or...

Maximum temperature setting for cheese lab

It seems likely temperature of this room would be set by the requirement for the product, not for the personnel working in the environment. This temperature would probably be determined by your QC department.
