    Attic access?

Throwing people out of your office is not a legal way to handle this situation. You give them a permit and they leave of their own accord. Throwing people out of your office to get your way makes you a thug. AHJs like you and Jar (he only plays one) are a lot of the reason that people regard...

    Precast Walls

Who does the calculations is not as important as who signs off on the calculations.

    Attic access?

As others have said it is not an attic "ATTIC. The unfinished space between the ceiling assembly of the top story and the roof assembly." This space is adjacent to the top story. --- Permitguy --- I was using Jar's comment to indicate that you deserved a warning also.

    Wetbar = 210-52 (C) 1-5, NEC 2008???

Papio Bldg Dept --- I think the disposal makes the wet bar similar to a kitchen counter. I think the total number of 20amp circuits serving the counters, kitchen and wet bar, is sufficient. Either of the existing 2 circuits could be extended or another circuit could be added. --- While I...

    Article 250

Since measuring the resistance is impractical, it is a poorly written code section. Much better to remove the resistance provision.

    Attic access?

"you are getting personal with me and I find your comment unacceptable." I don't have the power to "warn" you. Furring strips are sufficient to make my point. --- As for your fire story. It like all stories make for poor codes.

    Attic access?

Furring strips from the rafters to the studs. About 29" off the floor. No access needed. So you are going to require access because the guy does not put in a few furring strips? You really need to get a life.

    210-52 - receptacle spacing

And not every structures "needs" the code required receptacles. It is a foolish requirement.

Sharing PV power with another building

In theory there is no problem, but ... PV owners are allowed to sell back to the utility. It is not clear that they can provide electricity to other users. I think the second building is an "other user" becasue it has its own service. I think the utility, the owners, and the permiters should...

    210-52 - receptacle spacing

The days of 12' spacing are long past. It is just not sufficient. In my living room ... The TV sits next to 2 duplex receptacles. TV, antenna amp, computer, speakers, Wii, Wii monitor, radio: too many devices for 4 outlets. But the UPS and extension cord seem to serve the purpose. My desk...

    210-52 - receptacle spacing

An other way to avoid the fights is to remove the spacing requirement. I would be happy with that.

    Big Bird - Pass/Fail

I think the information should have been written as: "2x6s are sufficient for the span and load; these elements are 2x8s. The issue is the notch at the end." I don't see a grading issue if we removed 2" from the bottom of the elements and made them into 2x6s. Then the notch would be code...

    Deck Connections

This month's rash of tornadoes should help us understand that we cannot design structures that resist natural forces. I am happy with decks that fail in earthquakes, tornadoes, hurricanes, floods, snow, or just after 10 years of sitting there. While I suspect my house will survive 10 years of...

    Anchor Bolt edge distance

While there is no good reason that the anchor bolts are near the edge, it is difficult to show that such bolts are not sufficient.

    Hockey puck ledger spacers

Hockey pucks are rubber. It should be easy to get engineering data.

    Multiwire Branch Circuits

Considering that engineers get paid for their time ... Unless you are doing really big projects there is little cost advantage to doing much engineering. In data centers you don't worry about the wiring --- you can save a lot more by specifying the right computer components. You do the...

    No header required for cantilever

When the door is closed, the joists are properly supported. A simple note on the door indicating that it should not be opened would solve the problem. (I expect there is another code complaint exit.)

    Multiwire Branch Circuits

The solution that the engineer chooses seems to be the correct solution. He has no control over how the multiwire circuits are connected to the panel. Either now or in the future if breakers are replaced. So he makes it right regardless.

    destructive testing

Would you ever require that a floor be loaded to its design load? It is either prescriptive or engineered. You accept prescriptive because the code says you do. You accept engineered because the code says you do.

    check valve

All the submersible well pumps I have found on the internet seem to have check valves (or check valve systems???) that prevent backflow. According to Wiki one needs a dual check valve for code compliance. I don't know if a single check valve is sufficient or if a check valve system is a dual...

    check valve

Submersible well pumps seem to have a check valve at the bottom.

    Busbar ratings in PV systems

I think the designer is correct. The power source would be the PV panels. The load is the utility company.

600 amp panel board for 6,000 S.F. residence

I believe the code has a formula to determine service size.Just guessing is a very expensive method of sizing a service. --- Heating requirements vary a great deal from electric resistance heat to ground source heat pumps to fossil fuels. Cooling requirements vary a little between ground...

    Header For Garage Man Door

I guess what we really need are engineers inspecting engineered work. I would prefer the designer, but the AHJ could hire an engineer.
